T
he stories in this absorbing collection were originally posted on Armstrong's website. As she explains in the introduction, she '
wanted to do something that would thank readers for their support
'. Her frequent e-serials went on to become an annual tradition after Armstrong polled her readers and then wrote stories about their most requested characters.
E
ven so, Armstrong goes on to say, readers wanted to see the growing collection of stories in book form. In 2007, she was finally able to fulfill their request and her wish to see all the proceeds from that first publication,
Men of the Otherworld
, and then this second compilation,
Tales of the Otherworld
, go to a charity of her choice,
World Literacy of Canada
.
A
few in the collection like
Rebirth
,
Birthright
and
Ghosts
are short stories starring minor characters we've encountered throughout the series.
Bewitched
shows how dark witch Eve Levine and Kristoff Nast first crossed paths and then carried on their doomed love affair.
Wedding Bell Hell
is a fun story that takes us through the crazy preparations surrounding Lucas Cortez and Paige Winterbourne's wedding. And
Beginnings
, a novella rather than a short story and prequel of sorts to Armstrong's first release,
Bitten
, shows how fan favourite werewolves Elena and Clay first met while working together at a Toronto university.
T
ales of the Otherworld
, a great addition to Armstrong's expanding and popular booklist, adds additional insight and background into her already intriguing and complex
Otherworld
mythology.
