Want some advice on planning a birthday celebration? Good! You've come to the right place. In this picture book I cover some of the things you should or shouldn't do when hosting a birthday party. Since you only have one birthday every twelve months, it is a good idea to plan ahead so that everything comes off smoothly.

I think the best way of getting ready is to have a practice birthday. You can invite your stuffed animals to the party. When you make the invitations, use lots of fun colors. Also remember, you can't invite everyone to the party. For example, I would cross bees and bears off the list. Bees have 'pointy stingers' and bears will want to eat all the cake.

Next you should practice welcoming your guests and being a good hostess when it comes to selecting party games. A good hostess chooses something everyone can do together.

When planning the menu, Brussels sprouts, spinach soup, macaroni and pickles and jam and liver nuggets are probably not appropriate selections. I think sticking with cake and ice cream is the best idea.

There are things to know about singing the birthday song and blowing out candles which I'll share with you. But most importantly, you should work on how you respond to the gifts you will receive. It is not good form to say, 'Yuck! That's the worst present ever!' So you want to think up positive compliments such as, 'Wow! Underpants! I love underpants. Thank you!'

By the time you finish my book you'll know all about hosting a birthday party, so you'll be ready when the time arrives. And don't forget that it is a good idea to practice, practice, practice!

Parent note: As you and your child watch Kittie practice with her stuffed animals being the perfect birthday hostess, you will find plenty of silly things to laugh about. But at the same time, the message is quite clear. To have a successful birthday party it is important to be thoughtful and take good care of the invited guests.
