What's a sheep to do when he can't sleep? Should he count sheep? Well, in this romp by acclaimed children's author Karen Beaumont, the sheep is constantly being woken up by the nocturnal wanderings of the other farm animals.

'In the big red barn on the farm, on the farm,
in the big red barn on the farm ...

A sheep fell asleep in the big red barn,
in the big red barn on the farm.

Then there came a loud Quack
At the door, at the door,
And the sheep couldn't sleep any more.

"Go to sleep!" said the sheep
to the duck at the door.
"And please don't Quack any more!"
'

This goes on and on throughout the night, with the sheep (who falls asleep with his teddy bear), constantly being woken up by Moos and Oinks and Neighs and Baas.

Finally all is quiet until…everyone (except the poor, tired sheep) is woken up by a loud Cock-A-Doodle Doo by the resident rooster.

The story is simple and sweet with excellent rhythm and repetition that young children love. The drawings are picture-perfect, with adorable expressive animals and pleasing colors. This book is sure to be a hit with young children.
