Alice Singer always feels lost in the middle of her family. Her older brother Oliver is smart, and her younger sister Rosie is high spirited and adventurous. Alice doesn't feel like she's good at anything, at least not enough to get noticed. Yet one day, Alice beats her family in The Alphabet Game and breaks the family record. Alice's world record causes quite a stir, and the rest of their day is full of adventure for her.

Alice is a girl with whom kids will definitely identify. It's tough to feel like there's nothing special about you and that no one notices you. The small triumph of winning the family world record turns Alice's day around and helps her to enjoy visiting her grandma's house. Younger grade readers will relate to Alice and enjoy reading about her adventures.
