Sandra Boynton's Night-Night, Little Pookie is a heartwarming board book that portrays a typical bedtime ritual between loving mother and child. It hits all the right notes.

As the porcine mother calls her little one to bed, he hides from her ... but only to the count of three. When she asks, 'So tonight / will you wear / the pyjamas / with cars? / Or do you prefer / the pyjamas / with stars?', Little Pookie mixes and matches 'Stars and cars!'

After tooth brushing and nose washing (Mommy's nose too!), Pookie hides under the covers, but emerges for kisses and good night wishes - 'There are gentle winds blowing / and stars all above you. / Night-night, little Pookie. / I love you and love you.'

Night-Night, Little Pookie is the perfect little book to incorporate in a small child's bedtime ritual, emphasizing as it does both the child's emerging independence and need for reassurance and love.
