iara Griffin is an underpaid marketing manager for WMMP, the Lifeblood of Rock and Roll, the only known vampire radio station. She is also the protector of a group of cool, but obsessive-compulsive vampires who aren't able to change with the times. On paper she is also Elizabeth Vasser, the owner of the radio station. She obtained the second identity when her undead boss became definitely dead.

MMP takes Halloween seriously. They plan a Halloween bash with killer costumes, cocktails and rock and roll. Unfortunately a group of religious radicals take over the WMMP frequency and broadcast against the evils of Halloween, the occult, and deeds done in darkness. Next the Smoking Pig, the main street bar where the party is held, is firebombed. Fortunately no one is hurt, but a crude and grammatically incorrect warning sign painted in thick red paint is left behind:
Your Going to Hell

iara sets out to stop the illegal transmissions before they lose their fan base. While checking out the broadcast tower to get a handle on the creeps interrupting WMMP's programs, she rescues a large dog who is chained to a cross and the broadcast tower. She names the dog Dexter and takes him home to her apartment where she manages to pacify her landlord with promises that Dexter is only a temporary visitor. Dexter turns out to be a vampire dog. Not an easy sell to the Humane Society.

DJ Vampire
series.
Bad to the Bone
is another winner.
