I
n her usual droll manner, Thomas offers us a book about dust bunnies (who are depicted as colorful troll-like creatures) that like to rhyme. When the first dust bunny asks what rhymes with a particular word, all of the other bunnies shout out an answer, except for Bob, who seems to yell out incomprehensible words that do not rhyme with anything. For example, when one of the dust bunnies asks what rhymes with
dog
, Bob shouts, '
Look out! Here comes a big scary monster with a broom!
'
T
he reader may start to figure out that Bob is trying to warn the other dust bunnies about someone involved in a cleaning frenzy.
L
ike Thomas' other books,
Rhyming Dust Bunnies
is original, delightful and peppered with easy-to-read words. This is a book that begs to be read aloud. Indeed, my five-year old adores Jan Thomas' books and uses them to practice her reading (and to entertain the family). Without hesitation, I would recommend this book for families with young children.
