Father Turtle reads Little Turtle 'a story about penguins.' It sparks his imagination, so that he dreams that night of what life would be like as a penguin.

Little Turtle takes it further too. He practices waddling, dresses in penguin colors (red slippers and 'his grandfather's black jacket') and tells the other children and teacher Ms. Dog that he's a 'penguin from the South Pole.' All day long, supported by their excellent teacher, all the children enjoy a 'penguin day'.

But 'Then Father Turtle brought a new bedtime story to read' - about a little monkey who lives in the jungle. Can you tell where this is going? Turtle's Penguin Day is a sweet, brightly illustrated story, and Valeri Gorbachev supplies a page of Penguin Facts at the back for young readers who are inspired to enjoy their own penguin day.
