I am a fan of the Bear books by the Wilson/Chapman team. I don't know what I like better: the short, rhythmic dialogue or the soothing yet highly expressive illustrations, though it's probably a combination of the two.

In this romp, Bear is scared because he is lost in the woods while a storm is approaching. His friends are waiting for him in his lair and are equally fearful that something terrible has befallen him. With a display of true friendship, they set out to look for him and of course, happy endings abound.

'With a flap and flurry
all the friends gather near.
They give him bear hugs -
they calm his bear fears.

Later in the night,
all clustered in a heap,
the bear spins stories
while his friends fall asleep.

Cuddled up tight, they snore through the night.
And the bear feels safe.
'

True to illustrator Chapman's form, the drawings are as cozy as the bear's lair. This book is one that I highly recommend, particularly for the preschool age group.
