Horrific Halloween By Hilary Williamson October, 2003'Double, double toil and trouble; Fire burn and cauldron bubble.' (William Shakespeare, Macbeth)
I don't like horror movies - I was terrified for ten years every time I took a shower, ever since watching Psycho. So I probably won't read most of these thirteen spooky stories ... much too scary for me:
Scarabus by Karen Koehler Young Egyptian transformed into a manifestation of a dark and hungry god.
Threshold by Sara Douglass Egyptian style fantasy - artisan/slaves must fight a pyramid animated by evil.
A Winter Haunting by Dan Simmons Menacing dogs, sheriff, Skinheads, and mysterious messages.
The Year's Best Fantasy and Horror edited by Ellen Datlow & Terry Windling - 16th edition, fine collection of fantasy, horror and poetry.
That's our 2003 selection for those of you who enjoy being horrified; I shudder at the thought and will happily leave you to it. And if you enjoy terrifying titles, read Martina's interview with the successors to Mary Shelley, modern Ladies of Horror : The Next Generation and have a stupendously scary Halloween!
