After being dumped by her fiancé, Gretchen Hanover becomes addicted to ice cream and HGTV. Tired of living in what was supposed to be a temporary apartments, and inspired by HGTV, Gretchen decides to flip a house.

As her father, Hank, has always worked in construction, she believes she can successfully buy a house, do renovations and resell it for a profit. Unfortunately, the house she buys is in a worse state of disrepair that she first assumed.

Hank brings in Noah, a carpentry friend, to help with the repairs, much to Gretchen's dismay. However, Noah becomes an invaluable asset after Hank experiences a health scare that makes it difficult for him to help Gretchen. It appears that the six-week renovation deadline may be unattainable.

Carlson's descriptions are vivid and it is hard to refrain from laughing at Gretchen's hijacks with the renovations. Relationships develop at an appropriate pace and do not feel pressured. While things wrap up a little too neatly, this is a nice, quick book - ideal for a summer read.
