In 1904, Edith is called to return to Paris, Idaho to help her cousin Melinda, who is in danger of having a miscarriage. She is eager to see her family again but knows that they will try to match her up with a husband. But Edith is picky and rarely has a second date with the same man. Life gets interesting though when she meets Henry and Joseph, and mysterious letters begin to appear for her.

While Edith makes sure that her cousin takes care of herself, she observes that Melinda's stepdaughter Jenny is falling in love with a ranch hand named David. The family has decided that this is the last year that Jenny will go on the cattle drive as she should be learning to be a lady. There are also cattle rustlers who might give them trouble and Jenny's father Gilbert feels that something is going to happen.

Both Joseph and Henry seem to like Edith but she is holding back. She feels she is falling in love with the man who writes the mysterious letters to her. She assumes that he can't be either boring Henry or infuriating Joseph because the letters are so romantic and sweet. Edith can't wait to find out the identity of her true love.

Edith and the Mysterious Stranger is filled with romance, intrigue and history. Readers will love all that is rolled into this story, which brings back characters from Melinda and the Wild West. Edith seems like a difficult girl but in the end she softens when love lands at her door. It's fun to watch secondary characters David and Jenny as young love blossoms, but then they are hit with a situation that could ruin their relationship.

Linda Weaver Clarke has created a hit with this A Family Saga series set in the Bear Lake Valley, and I can't wait for the next story, Jenny's Dream.
