Lake Eden, Minnesota is preparing for its annual Winter Carnival. Hannah Swensen, owner, manager and chief cupcake pan washer of the Cookie Jar, is busy baking cookie after cookie for the event.

Just prior to the Carnival, Hannah discovers high image professional chef and all round nasty personality Connie Mac (in town for the publicity) dead on the floor of the Cookie Jar, one of Hannah's famous Blue Blueberry Muffins clenched in her fist. Soon her shop is surrounded by yellow crime scene tape, and she is forbidden to enter. So Hannah determines to find the killer in order to free up her kitchen. During the Winter Carnival festivities, the mayor is also found dead in his ice-fishing house on the frozen lake.

This cozy mystery - studded with great cookie recipes, just as Hannah's oatmeal cookies are studded with raisins - is a fun read. The characters are well rounded, ones you're happy to spend time with. The story is tightly written and moves with a good pace. Written with humor and insight, Blueberry Muffin Murder gives a glimpse into life during a Minnesota winter. Brr!
