R
uth Hostetter longs to be a wife and mother. When Luke Friesen refuses to join the church and settle down, she breaks up with him. When her new beau, Martin Gingrich, proposes - she happily accepts. Martin hopes their marriage will help keep Ruth safe from the vandalism that is occurring in their Holmes County Amish community.
T
he vandal seems to be targeting Ruth's family. Some believe Luke is acting out in anger at Ruth for dumping him. Her sister Grace blames Gary Walker - an English reporter she once dated. Ruth's father Abe is reluctant to bother Sheriff Osborn with what he believes could be innocent pranks. That becomes a less likely option after Martin and Ruth are involved in a serious
accident
that changes Ruth's life forever. She is forced to follow a path different from the one she envisioned for her future.
W
hile this book may not be quite as strong as some of her others, Brunstetter includes a lot of suspense in the storyline. It will pull the reader in and have them questioning the twists. However, the ending is a bit unsatisfying, as it never discloses the vandal's identity. Perhaps that will be answered in the third book in the series.
