am moved to Boston at age eighteen to begin a new life. She closely followed the one piece of advice that her stepfather Emmett gave her: '
Don't ever let yourself love anyone ... They leave you ... Love brings nothing but pain.

ow, after eleven years, Sam is returning to the Nantucket cottage she grew up in. Not because she wants to be there, but because she inherited it when Emmett died without a will. She knows that if she fixes up the house and sells it, she can make enough money to pay bills, send her daughter (Caden) to college and get a house. In doing so, she's forced to face a past that she's worked hard to forget: raised by an abusive stepfather, abandoned by her mother and left alone and pregnant at eighteen. Even her best friend, Landon, left town to attend college.
S
am hopes to fix up the cottage and return to Boston as soon as possible. The last person she expects to encounter is Landon. Caden's excited to meet the person she's heard stories about. In Nantucket, Caden finally learns who her father is, while Sam and Landon must deal with their feelings and events from the past. Will Landon be able to forgive Sam when he learns the secrets that caused her to leave eleven years before?
Surrender Bay
is a quick read in which the Christian themes are not overpowering.
