Its owner Theodosia Browning is being pushed to her limits getting ready for a festival and trying to help with the Historic Society Auction. When her formal tea – set up on one of the Society's patios – is rained out, everyone scurries inside, only to witness a man falling over a balcony, propelled by a bullet. Murder most vile! With a full handful of suspects, Theodosia starts her own investigation even though warned off by the police. Did that ever stop her before? The plot of Chamomile Mourning is clever, with a few twists and unexpected turns to throw the reader off track. Reading of the players is like stepping back into a high school reunion. You may not know everyone intimately, but you recognize each and every one. The city of Charleston plays its own part and remains the beguiling and lovely city of previous tea shop novels. Author Laura Childs peppers her story with references to teas and blends of teas from all over the world. Her in-house chef includes scrumptious recipes at the back of the book, of foods that are served throughout the action. Chamomile Mourning is a fun book with, I hope, the promise of more ahead.
