She prays that it will be a man who has good teeth and does not smell. To her surprise, Cullen Longton shows up right after her prayer. He has come to find out what happened to his baby son after his beautiful wife Alaina was killed. Sara convinces Cullen that his son is alive and that she will hand him over, but tells him that he has to marry her first. Sara had secretly saved the baby, telling everyone at the abbey that he died of the pox. Cullen is overjoyed that his beloved son is alive, but slightly disheartened that he has committed to marry the beautiful woman who blurts out whatever is on her mind. The adventure begins when they set off to collect Cullen's son. They have to make sure that Alaina's father will not follow them as he ordered the child to be killed; he has no problem killing the three of them. They also must deceive Sara's father into thinking they are in love so he will not make her marry the man with bad teeth. Spending time together, their relationship grows from friendship into passion, even though Cullen doesn't want to fall in love with Sara, believing it will dilute his love for his dead wife. Donna Fletcher creates a tale filled with passion, danger and loyalty. Cullen is fiercely protective of Sara even though he believes he can't love her. Sara has fallen for him, and learns it is better to have loved and lost than to have never experienced love at all. Cullen and Sara are perfectly matched. They are both strong but each has a vulnerability that only the other can help with. The Highlander's Bride is a great book to relax with on a summer's afternoon.
