sychic Kate Reilly barely survives a violent encounter with the Thrall queen, yet manages to vanquish the vampire and her minions. Unfortunately, the authorities decide to put Kate on trial for murder and destruction of property. She's forced to put her life - and her job - on hold while the courts put her through the ringer. The only good thing to come out of this dark chapter of her life is the fact that she's become even closer to her lover, Tom Bishop, who's stuck by her side throughout the entire ordeal.

ut her bliss over their deepening relationship doesn't last once she discovers that Tom's werewolf pack wants to break them up. As a dominant Alpha, it's expected that he mate with other werewolves to assure the survival of his pack. As an infertile human, Reilly definitely doesn't fit their requirements. Her life turns even more complicated when the Thrall blackmail her into investigating the murder of their young. She wants nothing to do with the creatures to whom she already has a psychic connection, particularly since they still want to lure her over to their side as their new Queen. But how can she refuse their demands when finding the answers the Thrall seek could save her brain-injured brother's life?

he talented writing team of Adams and Clamp offer up another stellar tale in their vividly imagined and complex world. The plot is at times somewhat busy and may be confusing for those who haven't read the first in the series (
Touch of Evil
). Even so, great characterizations, a consistent dark tone and the singular twists that rule the vampires, werewolves and other creatures that inhabit this world, provide just the right mix to make
Touch of Madness
another standout story and a worthy second installment in the
Thrall
series.
