In Pride and Prejudice Jane Austen writes, 'It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.' Bookstore manager Emily Albright gives this famous quote her own twist; she is a single girl in possession of her right mind who wants to find a decent man. There's one problem though - she's having a tough time finding him. She's dated Daniel, who invited her over to his mother's house for dinner; Aaron, a white-cowboy-boot-wearing cheat; and John, who stole her taxi after a disastrous dinner. Emily's friend is convinced a week of margaritas and men in Mexico will cheer her up. But an ever-faithful Jane Austen fan, Emily books a guided English tour of Jane Austen country instead. She hopes to find the man of her dreams - Mr. Darcy, the proud, intelligent, and handsome hero of Pride and Prejudice.

In Alexandra Potter's Me and Mr. Darcy, Emily Albright finds her quiet vacation in England to be anything but. Her trip begins inauspiciously as she boards the tour guide bus and it's full of little old ladies. The exception is Mr. Spike Hargreaves, a handsome, but evil-tempered, journalist along on the tour to write a piece about why Mr. Darcy has earned the title of Man Most Women Would Love to Date. Emily and Spike cross paths and tempers immediately. But as the tour progresses and Emily tours Jane Austen's haunts, she finds Mr. Darcy himself. Caught between her fantasy and her real life, Emily is forced to confront questions about storybook romance and reality. Can everyone find their Mr. Darcy, and how much pride and prejudice does someone need to overlook? Perhaps Jane Austen and a mysterious tour guide can help her find the answers.

Alexandra Potter deftly weaves Emily's story into that of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. As Emily reads the novel on the tour, parallels arise between Emily's adventures and those of Austen heroine Elizabeth Bennett. Me and Mr. Darcy is an engaging book, with a charming mix of fantasy and reality. Die hard romantics and Austenites will not be disappointed.
