T
he Dangerous Book for Boys
is filled with wonder and mystery; it is chock-full of interesting facts and often very humourous. This book is ideally suited for boys twelve to fourteen - however, readers of all ages will have a real good time with it.
T
he book's content is a compendium of eighty-four separate articles that range in subject matter from
Growing sunflowers
to
How to play poker
. Some of my favourite topics were
Spies –codes and ciphers
,
Navigation
,
Extraordinary Stories
and
Five poems every boy should know
. But with such a variety readers will have their own favourites. You can't help flaunting your newfound knowledge after finishing a piece, or better still, reading a bit to an unsuspecting subject.
T
wo brothers, Conn and Hal Iggulden - who no doubt had a great deal of fun in the exercise - write the book. There is an obvious British bias that in itself adds to the charm.
The Dangerous Book for Boys
is a great read to wile away that summer vacation and better still to try some of the projects described; like
Making crystals
.
