Marcia Muller's popular series featuring PI Sharon McCone is continuing its long run with another humdinger of a book. The Ever-Running Man is as good as it gets. It's a quick read that will be hard to put down until it's finished.

This new contribution to a favorite series of mine starts off with a bang and continues to pound on nearly every page. Hy Ripinski, Sharon's husband, is the third partner in a multinational security firm. The offices of his company are being blown to bits by a man who was seen running away at the time of the bombings. Sharon is retained by Hy's company to trace this ever-running man and turn him over to the police. He has already killed when he takes a shot at Sharon. Not happy, apparently, that he missed, he turns next to Hy.

The search for this bomber could destroys Sharon and Hy's marriage, as Sharon must interrogate Hy about his past, something he does not wish to discuss. Life is not easy in either of their occupations and attempting to co-ordinate their schedules also proves difficult.

Muller's plots are always tightly written with wonderful characters who skim along with each book. They all become like distant members of your own families. Suspense escalates as Sharon's investigation gets off the ground and goes in random directions. She ties it all together just as the case moves to a close. The Ever-Running Man is a good book.
