Miriam Swanson is a New York snob who once lived the high life with her husband Charles. Her grown sons, whom she had no time for, now neglect her. In middle age, Charles has left her for a younger woman and Miriam has turned her fabulous home into apartments in order to survive.

Her closest friend, Kevin, lives in one. Whenever Miriam needs an escort, Kevin is there to assist and give fashion advice. Her second tenant, Liz, is young and single. Strange noises come from the apartment day and night and Miriam regrets renting to her. Miriam soon discovers Liz entertaining Truman, husband of her former friend Agnes. When Charles left Miriam, Agnes turned on her, treating the situation as Miriam's fault.

Stressed from all that life has thrown her way Miriam decides to visit her mother, Miss Josie, on Sullivan's Island, South Carolina for rest and relaxation. On arriving, she notices the changes in her mother, who has adopted a Bohemian life style and has a much younger man, Harrison, for a companion.

Returning home, Miriam seeks revenge on Agnes and informs her of her husband's fling with Liz. But when Liz bears the brunt of Truman's fury, Miriam feels responsible. She takes Liz to Miss Josie for healing. There, Miriam grows to understand what is important in life. How did she become a woman with no connection to her sons or their families? She has had to return home to find her true self. Spending time with her mother has revealed to Miriam the truth behind Miss Josie's life style. She has been given a second chance to reach out before it is too late.

The Land of Mango Sunsets is a beautiful story that will have you laughing out loud one minute and crying the next. Sullivan's Island comes to life along with all the amazing characters we meet. Enjoy!
