Dark Room is Andrea Kane's sixth novel. Always delivering a good read, Kane has outdone herself with this romantic suspense novel. When she was ten years old, Morgan Winter walked into a basement to find her parents' bodies – killed by gunshots. Seventeen years of trying to deal with the trauma has not brought relief. Now the man who confessed to the double murder is found not guilty of that crime.

Who could be out there – roaming free in her city to kill again? Monty, the NYPD detective who caught the call on the original killings and is now a private investigator, is hired by Morgan to find the person responsible for ending her life as she knew it. Someone out there doesn't want Morgan and Monty to delve into the murders. Fearing for her life doesn't deter Morgan from pursuing the killer. Nor does it stop pugnacious Monty.

This is a powerful book of suspense. Although I picked out the killer before the end of the first chapter, this did not diminish my pleasure of the read. The clues were there to be picked out in this tightly written novel. The characters were the people you might meet in a social occasion – we never know what secrets anyone is hiding. The secrets were big ones – both acknowledged and those that were ignored.

The background of frenetic New York played well as did following the traces of the crime that still existed after all those years. Today's modern techniques come into play. There's also a romantic storyline that one keeps hoping will work out.
