Golf is a bizarre game. Of course, most people on the planet (at least those who are smart enough to avoid frustrating pastimes) are either completely indifferent or sometimes openly hostile about the game (and you can include the uninitiated non-players or formerly humiliated hackers in that group). A relatively small number of other people on the planet (including those who actually and frequently play the game because of some inexplicable need to experience suffering and sorrow) are devoted to and passionate about the game (often to the point of pathological, clinical compulsion and obsession). There seems to be no portion of the population who would say of golf, 'I can either take or leave it.'

As is well known by the smaller number of people who regularly (frequently) play the game, there is one thing that is indispensable to every golf outing. It is more important than having either the technological edge (i.e., the newest long-distance driver, the latest extra yardage golf ball, the GPS yardage calculator, etc.) or the exclusive membership in the most elite golf club in the metropolitan area. Every golfer simply must have a sense of humor. Without an ability to laugh at the game (and one's self), would-be golfers are destined (diabolically doomed) to join the hundreds of thousands (millions?) of thoroughly humiliated hackers whose golf clubs collect dust and rust in the darkest corner of the garage.

With that in mind, here is the book designed to tweak and tune the golfer's indispensable sense of humor. If you are a golfer, read Rusher's How to Line Up Your Fourth Putt and you'll learn things you'll never learn elsewhere (no matter how many lessons you take from the club pro, no matter how many issues of Golf Digest you've collected, and no matter how many instructional videos and training aids you've ordered from The Golf Channel). Rusher's book will not do a thing to reduce your handicap, and it won't do a thing to avoid that dreaded slice into the water hazard on the 14th hole, and it certainly will not help you take more of your friends' money during those friendly (but sometimes hostile) golf outings. Rusher's laugh-out-loud encyclopedia of advice will, however, help you get a more healthy perspective on the game. You will learn how to smile more frequently at your own (and your friends') game (or at least you will learn how to handle the tears that occasionally accompany a round of golf).
