What an absolute delight of a book. Matthew Klein's Con Ed portrays the ultimate con game so well that at times, I wondered if I were going to be the victim of the con.

Kip Largo is a con man, pure and simple. Been one since his father taught him at his knee that the way to live was off other people. Now Kip, fresh out of Lompac prison after five years as a resident there, has decided to go straight - although working in a dry cleaner's establishment for ten dollars an hour and tips is not his idea of the ideal existence. When the opportunity to work the biggest and most clever con of his life comes along, who is he to resist?

Setting up the con took a great deal of plotting, I'm sure. But author Matthew Klein was up to the task. Con Ed gives readers a look into the seamier side of life while also making us realize that almost anyone has a point at which they will turn an illegal dollar. Kip utilizes that ubiquitous trait to pull the con of the year, possibly the century. If Con Ed is an example of a first book, I can't wait for this author to hit his stride.
