Leafpool, who had left her Clan to be with Crowfeather, gave up her love and returned to settle into her role as Clan Healer. And Squirrelflight and Brambleclaw, who had been at odds over the former's distrust of Brambleclaw's brother Hawkfrost, remembered their feelings for each other, to Ashfur's fury. As that episode ended, two old friends - Stormfur and Brook - came unexpectedly to Thunderclan's aid.

opens on devastation at the Thunderclan Camp - with cats dead, injured, and in shock. The survivors regroup and organize to help the old, young and wounded, and hold vigil for the dead, in particular their beloved Medicine Cat. Though still loyal to his Clan and leader, Brambleclaw continues (with reservations) his dream meetings with Hawkfrost and Tigerstar, in which the latter coaches his two sons on ambition and ruthlessness - Hawkfrost listens and works hard to manipulate his own future. The cats discover human traps for foxes and learn how to disarm them. ShadowClan tries to encroach on ThunderClan's territory. And Leafpool is told by StarClan in dreams that '
the path of your life will twist in ways yet hidden to you.
