ixteen-year-old Angelina Rossini's life comes crashing down when her father has a stroke that leaves him partially paralyzed.

he's never minded her dad being old enough to be her grandfather or the ongoing love affair between her parents. She knows she has a special place in his life. When the stroke happens and things change drastically for all of them, Angelina faces feelings she never dreamed she would have for the strong man she grew up loving. She must learn to love and accept him as the man he has become.

his slice of life vignette is kept interesting by Hacker's setting of a small Vermont town with its idiosyncrasies and diverse citizens, and her ability to portray strong supporting characters. The only jarring note is that we never learn what happens in many of the lives Hacker touches on. In spite of this,
Life as I Knew It
is a touching story and worth reading.
