P
hryne Fisher bursts on the mystery scene again in
Death at Victoria Docks
. I, one of her multitude of fans, am darn glad to see her. Her adventures always make fun and intriguing reads. This one is no exception.
P
hryne finds the body of a young man shot to death. Her ire is aroused. Such a waste. As an investigator, she is approached by a distraught father whose fourteen-year-old daughter has run away. Phryne is off and running – in her elegant clothes (so beautifully described) and driving her Hispano-Suiza automobile. The time and place is 1928 Melbourne, Australia.
R
evolutionary activities, kidnappings, incest, nuns, bullets flying, a bank heist – and Phryne's amorous encounters make for another delightful book and an engaging read.
