letter. Then the story takes an unusual turn. John Tyree joined the army after high school for something to do, as he felt his life was going nowhere. The service gave him structure and purpose. Then he met Savannah who quickly became his reason for living.

romising to wait for him, Savannah watched him leave on a tour of duty. The unimaginable happened – 9/11. John committed to serve his country in its time of need. What happens after that is the crux of the plot, and speaks of a man who has a great love that doesn't fade with absence.

ohn, a quiet, introspective man, grows up on the pages of his story. Savannah, a college student, is level-headed and sure of her goals.
