ead Canaries Don't Sing
is a fine start to a new series. Veterinarian Jessica Popper, in pursuit of her vocation, discovers the dead body of a man - a murdered canary bird beside him. Someone ready to sing with his song cut short?
B
ecause she found the body, Jessie feels compelled to do some detecting to find the person who murdered the man – and the wee canary. After her friend is given a warning intended for her, Jessie finds a canary feather on her windshield. Instead of backing off, she is convinced she is on the right track and continues her not-quite-so-amateur detecting.

ynthia Baxter has created a new series with a vet who seems to know her craft. She has also fashioned a woman with the courage of her convictions; Jessie fearlessly – foolishly her suitor feels – continues to question anyone who knew the dead man until it looks like she's talked to one person too many. With her life on the line, Jessie realizes she should have backed off when she had the chance.
