When Shira Klein and Yonatan Luria - both writers of acclaim - meet, the age-old battle of the sexes begins. Shira has had several relationships that she seemed ready to end almost as soon as they began, but they dragged on through apathy on her part. So she is cautious about starting another. But Yonatan, a widower with a young daughter, looks promising and she finds herself attracted to him.

Yonatan is entranced by Shira but is slow coming out of his mourning for his wife, so he fights his urges. Accidents becomes the story of their intricate dancing footsteps around each other in a love story that takes place in Tel Aviv. Yael Hedaya, author of Housebroken, writes a compelling account of family, love and death. Her take of a widower coming to terms with his wife's death found me nodding my head in agreement. Been there, done that. Just as heartbreaking as I remember.

His daughter's story differs little from Yonatan's, while Shira, never married, looks on their situation from a different angle. Hedaya treats her readers to the cogitations of all three. Deeply profound thoughts are woven into the text so that it is not unusual to put a finger to hold your place and ruminate on what you've just read.

Action-packed, Accidents is not. Instead it is emotionally packed, keeping the reader speculating as to whether Yonatan and Shira can become as one - and will Yonatan's daughter fit in?
