he chapters are divided based upon appropriate foods for specific age groups, beginning at six months old, when babies are often introduced to solids for the first time. The book contains a collection of family friendly recipes that are nutritious and - though I have yet to taste test all of them - look to be delicious as well. I like cookbooks with photographs of the prepared recipes, and while not every recipe is photographed, the ones that are pictured are in color, and look pretty delectable.

he author provides detailed nutritional information such as an explanation of the food pyramid, explanation of vitamins and minerals, and which foods contain them. She also adds helpful sidebar information such as the health benefits of garlic or oats or prunes, and a discussion about food allergies. None of the recipes seem overly taxing or complicated, and the directions are very detailed, making it easy for even the most inept cooks among us to follow.

baked sweet potato and carrot puree
, for example. Or, if your children are more advanced eaters, you can make
drumsticks with barbecue sauce
