P
acifica, the princess in hiding in
Scrapped Princess
, is a shallow, silly girl given to pouts and rants. She is so annoying to her older foster siblings that the fact that they have given up lives of their own to protect her is hard to comprehend.
T
he plot, which is thin, seems to be the effort on the part of Raquel and Shannon, the older foster sister and brother, to keep Pacifica alive until she turns sixteen. At that time, according to the prophecy which came from the all-powerful god Mauser, something unknown and terrible will happen to the world, which will be caused by Pacifica. Mauser calls Pacifica evil. At fourteen, she may seem spoiled and sullen, but certainly not evil.
R
aquel and Shannon have been trained by their now-dead parents in magic and martial arts. One professional assassin after another attempts to kill Pacifica, and each is thwarted by the very young and inexperienced brother and sister. I thought of a computer game while reading the book, with assassins popping up constantly and being, '
Aaiiee!
', destroyed. And so it goes, on and on, as the journey continues.
