Spa piñatas, chopstick coasters, rock place cards, and solar lanterns all are found within the pages of Danny Seo's latest book, Simply Green Parties. Seo, an environmentalist since his birth on Earth Day, is the host and creator of a TV and radio series about eco-friendly living. This, his fourth book, offers simple, sensible suggestions for throwing parties that show your guests you care about them and about the environment.

Simply Green Parties is organized into six different party sections. Seo gives tips on hosting everything from a dinner under the stars, to a baby shower, to a winter warm up party. For each, he offers easy decorating projects using recyclable or organic materials. Seo's décor has a natural, comfortable feel to it, without being costly. He offers up yummy recipes, money saving advice on organic foods, and instructions on where such items can be found. Seo focuses on easy - painting rocks with glow in the dark paint to mark paths, making tea lights from oyster shells, and sprinkling pebbles with essential oils to create a potpourri.

The book's pages are an environmental advertisement in themselves. Printed on recycled paper and using vivid digital images to eliminate film and processing, this small book is a treasure trove of ideas. Most of them are quite within the range of normal crafting capability. A few however are a bit fantastical, such as recovering dining room chair cushions with old cashmere sweaters. Neat idea, but I just don't have that many cashmere sweaters lying around begging to be recycled! All in all, for those of us striving to treat this planet we call home a little better, and seeking to assuage the guilt of using paper plates, Danny Seo offers creative and beautiful alternatives.
