Out of Sight, published in 1999, has all the action, excitement and quirks that Leonard's many other books offer to the reader. Dialogue flows with unerring speed to carry the story along. Many an unexpected chuckle escapes the reader in appreciation of Leonard's quick wit and mastery of his trade. About to serve a summons and complaint on Florida's Glade Prison, Deputy U.S. Marshall Karen Sisco gets caught up in a jailbreak and finds herself in the trunk of one of the escapee's cars. Bank robber Jack Foley, taking advantage of a tunnel dug by other inmates, strolls away from a long prison term and takes Sisco with him. From there, the real fun starts. With his signature dry wit and flair for the offbeat, Leonard proceeds to weave a tale of bank robbers, police investigations and an off-the-wall love story. Foley proves to be a very likable character even if his natural inclinations lead him to a life of crime. He gets, in the end, what he has coming to him - or does he?
