Fourplay is an aptly titled chick lit novel that has a nice blend of British humor, a touch of romance, and just simply an interesting storyline. This book is enjoyable because the main character, thirty-three-year-old Josephine 'Jo' Miles, is a gentle soul, whose life is turned upside down when her husband leaves her for the proverbial cliché – he is having an affair with his 23-year-old blond secretary, Candy. Jo discovers the affair when she sees photographs of Candy in her birthday suit. Jo knows that she didn't take those pictures, so it had to have been her husband Jeff. Jeff sheepishly fesses up readily enough to the affair, although he does not end it to save his marriage and he moves in with Candy in short order.

Despite her newfound single status, Jo cannot fathom dating. She is too busy being a mother to their son and daughter (Jeff left the job of 'telling the kids' to Jo) and working part-time on her own as an interior decorator while the children are in school. However, there are some very eligible bachelors around her. Handsome and kind Conor is best friends with Jo's brother Tim. Jo has known Conor since childhood and he always knows what to say to make her feel comfortable and to put a smile on her face. Then Jo meets sexy photojournalist Sean in a fender bender one day and the two immediately hit it off. Eligible bachelor number three is Martin, a 45-year-old music industry mogul who is ready to settle down and provide a life of luxury and glamour to the right woman. Lastly, there is Jeff himself, who starts to realize that perhaps the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence.

Would Jo consider reconciliation with Jeff or will she build a new future with Conor, Sean, or Martin? I'll leave that to the reader to find out, as I highly recommend this entertaining novel. For me, it was a delicious pleasure and a great escape after a long day at work, as well as a fun book to relax with during the week-end. Add this book to your wish list and pick it up when you are ready for an entertaining diversion from every day life.
