Like its predecessor, volume two of The Right Words at the Right Time contains inspirational, feel-good essays that pay tribute to the 'enduring power of words'. Each item in this collection can be read quickly, making the book perfect for busy readers who want to unwind with a heartwarming story at the end of a long day.

While the previous volume contained stories from 108 celebrities, volume two includes essays from people just like you and me. Marlo Thomas conducted a nationwide search, and from thousands of entries selected 101 'first-person stories that are at once universal and strikingly personal'. She then organized the essays into thirteen sections, each representing a different theme, such as At a Crossroads, Taking Chances, Finding Yourself, and On the Job.

Touching and heartwarming, the essays offer different viewpoints on general themes to which we can all relate. Woven throughout is the message of the book: words have the power to heal, comfort, soothe, entice, persuade and motivate. Above all, words can leave a lasting impression, as in the case of cancer patient Terrie McKenna, who was told by a doctor to 'Chew Your Water'. The lesson, according to McKenna, was to 'reconnect with things I did every day, even if it was just driving my car, eating a meal, or cleaning my kids' room'. Would that lesson have hit home as powerfully if it hadn't been delivered in three cryptic words?

The stories range from the lighthearted to the dramatic and powerfully emotional. From the tale of the little girl whose mother told her 'Everyone is shy', to the essay of the once suicidal rape victim who was saved by a celebrity's poem, these stories offer hope, eloquent insights, and ultimately leave the reader with an unabashed sense of optimism.
