This pursuit of Hannah's is much to the chagrin of her police chief boyfriend Mike, but applauded by her dentist boyfriend Norman, who wants to help solve the latest murder. Hannah, who runs the Cookie Jar with her partner, is not what one would call a happy camper when a rival pastry shop opens across the street in her tiny northern town. The Magnolia Blossom Bakery touts their signature item, Southern Peach Cobbler, as the best. Locals and tourists alike flock to the new store, leaving Hannah with few sales by the end of the day. Sure she will be under suspicion after she finds Shawna Lee shot to death in the Magnolia Blossom's kitchen, Hannah gathers her cohorts around her and sets out to methodically eliminate suspects. At the same time, her mother is being romanced by a bon vivant whom Hannah just can't seem to trust. This makes for a lively plot, with many interesting twists and turns as well as fourteen (14! Count 'em) fabulous new recipes for cookies, cookies, cookies. Chocolate abounds and soothes the nerves, as well as proving pleasing to all palates involved. Hannah's roommate, Moishe the cat, is a fun character. He can tell when the phone rings that Hannah's mother is on the line. And he sure gets fed a lot - he'll have to be renamed Moishe the Fat.
