he Chocolate Frog Frame-Up
is the third in Joanna Carl's chocolate laden series. This particular one was published in 2003, but I found to my delight that I had not read it. Lee McKinney came to Warner's Pier on Lake Michigan to escape an unhappy marriage and to help her Aunt Nettie run TenHuis Chocolade, a chocolate shop of renown. Lee found a new home with her aunt while keeping the books for the shop.
L
ove and chocolate go together as do Lee and her new friend Joe Woodyard. Not sure if something long-lasting is in the wind, neither Joe nor Lee wants to get stung again by a bad relationship. That status quo is challenged when Joe comes under suspicion for the murder of the town nuisance – Herschel Perkins. From that moment on, the action never ceases, with one emergency after another. The specter of death follows the couple on a romantic ride on the lake, on the highway, and at a deserted house on the lakeshore.
I
like the characters Carl has created, and also the chocolate facts she has researched. I must admit I never gave much thought to the pieces of chocolate I from time to time pop into my mouth. Knowing the history makes the treat more special.
