Richard Marienthal, first time author, convinces Louis Russo to testify at a senate hearing. Russo, ex-hit man for the Mafia, is his source for damaging testimony that could derail the incumbent's bid for the presidency. Russo is assassinated, as is his assailant, leaving Marienthal without backup for his allegations. The MPD, FBI, CIA and his family hunt for him as Marienthal goes into hiding. While eluding everyone, he approaches our old friends Amanda and Mac Smith for help – mainly as to what to do with incriminating tapes that could bring down a good man. Truman knows of what she writes and does it well. Washington, D.C. (and especially its watering holes) is one of the compelling characters in this masterfully told story. The author is able to present D.C. as a great place to visit – just keep an eye out for intrigue and be wary of those who claim they are just telling you the truth. Her characters are well written with flaws that we all have – making them human and real. The pace of Union Station is fast enough to keep the reader breathless. The climax is thoroughly satisfying.
