After watching the first snow fall of the season outside my office window, I was pleased to be transported to a fictional island off the west coast of Florida by reading Wendy Howell Mills' third book, Island Intrigue.

Sabrina Dunsweeney travels from Cinncinnati, with her constant companion and sounding board a parakeet named Calvin - to Comico Island for some much needed R & R. Wrong choice. The small island is anything but peaceful. A three hundred year-old story of a pirate is closely related to the body of a murdered man found in his father's dory. The story unravels as Sabrina meets and quickly becomes friends with the islanders. Though the place is tourist-ridden, Comico's long-time residents accept Sabrina as one of their own. They welcome her attempts to put on a Shakespearean play with the local schoolchildren.

Sabrina not only makes friends, but she is determined to find the killer, which, of course, she does, but not without some twists to the story that put me off the scent - I didn't figure out who committed the dastardly act. Island Intrigue is a welcome breath of warm soothing breeze, enough to delay the start of the winter doldrums.
