All Roads Lead to Texas    by Linda Warren Order:  USA  Can Harlequin, 2005 (2005) Paperback     Reviewed by Marie Hashima Lofton Callie Lambert changes her last name to Austin and takes her three young half siblings from New York to the Texas town she was told she was born in. Callie has heard of a special homestead program there, which will make land available to her. What the townspeople don't know is that Callie technically kidnapped her siblings and is most likely wanted by the FBI. When Callie shows up in Homestead, she is assumed to be the children's mother, but in reality Adam, Brit and Mary Beth are her siblings by a different father (now deceased), and are hiding from their abusive stepfather Nigel. Their mother is also dead, and only Callie can protect them. In Homestead, they encounter people who are as good to them as family, and Callie falls for the sheriff, a cowboy named Wade Montgomery. He senses that Callie is hiding something, but his gut tells him to trust her. Wade is dealing with his own demons, mainly trying to get over the tragic death of his only son. Wade's father is now an alcoholic, drowning his sorrows over his grandchild's death, and at the same time trying to deal with a big financial loss that is connected to the homestead program. Jock isn't too keen on the program working out, and resents the newcomers who arrive in town to take over the land it offers, including Callie. But it doesn't take long for Callie and her siblings to win him over. This is a very enjoyable read with all the elements that make a romance amusing and refreshing. The children steal the stage, and I especially enjoyed the antics of Fred the goldfish. While this wasn't my personal favorite in the Home to Loveless County series, I still recommend it. Callie's secrets and her potential criminal record keep her and Wade apart, and the reader will keep fingers crossed as the two find their way to each other.
