A
s always, Massie Block is feeling very pleased with herself as this 4th of the
girly
Clique
series opens. She's put away her 26 Christmas presents, and is busy admiring her new Bean mannequin (her puppy Bean also owns a '
doggie bunk bed
'). The only thing that mars Massie's pleasure is the fact that the Lyons family plans to move to Chicago, and Claire is about to be given the news by her father. For, despite a very rocky start, Massie and Claire are now as close as sisters. But, just like sisters, harmony doesn't last long.
M
assie's dad makes an offer that averts the move, the result being that the Lyons stay with the Blocks while the guesthouse is renovated for them. Claire shares Massie's room, despite being allergic to Bean, while her brother Todd installs spy gear in Massie's shower. Alicia's cousin Nina, who's come to stay for the semester, turns out to be '
a sultry Spanish beauty
', whose '
epic cleavage
' the boys admire, and who riles Massie big time. Alliances shift once more. Nina foils the girls' plans for first kisses at the Valentine's Day Dance by going after their boys. And there are a series of minor thefts at home and at school.
A
s their problems escalate, Massie, Claire and Alicia take decisive action. They conclude that espionage is in order, and make a
date with revenge
that's excruciating for the victim ... and Claire does get to experience that first kiss. As always,
Invasion of the Boy Snatchers
is delicious fun for middle school girls.
