hough the drawn out mystery is pretty standard and the hot and heavy romance predictable, I enjoyed
Ghost Walk
for its New Orleans setting and history, and for the unusual occupation of its heroine. Nikki DuMonde manages a ghost tour operation for her absentee boss, Max Dupuis, and leads quite a few groups herself.
W
orking with Nikki are Julian ('
her best friend forever
'), Nathan, Mitch, Patricia and Andrea. One day, as they gather in Madame D'Orso's for café au lait and beignets before work, a mute derelict approaches Nikki, who rewards him with a twenty. It turns out that he was an undercover FBI agent, who's soon dead of a drug overdose along with Andy. The police assume that Andy's past returned to haunt her, but Nikki is sure that her friend was murdered. What's more, she begins to be terrified by ghosts dropping in - they clearly want something from her.
W
hen part Lakota Brent Blackhawk is asked to look into the case of the FBI man, his sources include some who hang out in the cemetery. He meets Nikki and presses her to introduce him to her own spooky contacts. Of course, there's an immediate strong attraction between them. Brent's suspicion of Nikki's colleagues adds to the tension. Quite a few corpses - and ghostly encounters - later, it's all resolved, the villains jailed, the spirits at peace, and hero and heroine get to rest on their laurels.
