The book has a great deal of information on the geography of American deserts and survival techniques. This includes tips on finding water and making shelter, information about plants and animals that inhabit deserts, and sage advice about what to do if lost in the desert. After reading The Secret Knowledge of Water, the reader may never think of the desert in the same way again. Childs paints a painstaking, yet beautiful picture of the harsh terrains we simply call desert.
