hough Anna is absolved of responsibility for a car accident that kills her brother's girl friend and critically injures her best friend, she finds it hard to deal with her guilt. As her best friend Ellen heals physically, Anna is forced to admit that she needs help to recover mentally.

hen the story begins, Anna and her brother are reviving their relationship. Only one year apart in age, Anna and Jack were good friends when they were younger, but as teenagers they've drifted apart. Jack's girlfriend Cameron is the catalysis who helps to reunite them. E. R. Frank skillfully interweaves Anna's past with her present struggle to handle her guilt and sadness, and cope with her family. Her dad has an overwhelming need to control and his frustration turns into anger when his demands aren't met. Since he doesn't want Anna to go to counseling, she tries hard to handle things alone. Her mother is distant, allowing her husband to make and enforce the rules governing their children.

is about the aftermath of a deadly accident, and how a family deals with this life changing event. Anna's family and friends are strong, independent characters with lives and problems of their own, not just supporting actors in Anna's story. I enjoyed the novel so much that I was sorry to see it end. There was so much more I wanted to know about them all.
