As quoted on the book's front cover, 'movies are the only religion she knows.' This sums up the plot in a nutshell. Confessions of a Nervous Shiksa is the story of Alexis Manning, VP for a production company. She associates all the experiences in her life with popular movies of the time, much as other people relate to songs.

The story begins with Alexis back at work after a nasty break with her Jewish bartender boyfriend over the holiday. Still spinning from those events, she tries to get back to business as usual. Throughout the novel, she has a lot going on to distract her from her breakup. There are difficulties with her sick cat Little, the dissolution of her own sister's relationship, and her company's campaign associated with their new movie, 'Portland Girls'.

I enjoyed the novel, which also made me want to rent the movies Lexy talks about. If you're both a movie buff and chick lit fan, don't miss Confessions of a Nervous Shiksa.
