While videographer Ellie Forman drinks a soda at a rest stop near Lake Geneva, the woman she is talking to is cut down by a sniper's bullet. Although the woman was a stranger to Ellie, she feels compelled to pursue the elusive killer.

This action is not new to Ellie. She has helped solve crimes before (in previous books). As usual, her investigation puts her at the mercy of villains. She manages to acquire a new heartthrob, and to conquer her fear of flying at the same time. Tracking down family history, Ellie comes across information that could solve the murder of the woman at the rest stop, as well as the murder of a young girl long ago.

The plot is intriguing. I like the characters. Ellie is today's woman – sure of herself and not afraid to go where she shouldn't in her quest for the identity of a murderer. However, for some reason, the pace of the story seemed slow to me. The action never quite grabbed me as urgent. That said though, A Shot to Die For is well worth the read.
