I don't know which of J. A. Jance's series I like best – the one with Sheriff Joanna Brady or J. P. Beaumont's adventures. I guess whichever one I happen to be into at the time - they are both well worth the read.

Long Time Gone features J. P. Beaumont in another action-packed, heart stopping, empathetic ride. Beaumont's close friend, Ron Peters, is the subject of a murder investigation. Peters' children are as close to Beaumont as if they were his own, and the whole ball of wax is melting to include Peters' daughter Heather. Could she have killed her birth mom? Jurisdiction becomes an issue as Beaumont and an adversary in the Seattle police department battle it out as to whose case it is. Sister Mary Katharine has recovered her memory of a murder she watched being committed when she was a child. Suddenly, fifty year-old alibis are being checked and re-checked. Can such an old cold case be solved?

As usual, Jance's characters are well rounded and believable. Her action never skips a beat and the suspense is all anyone could possibly want. The story line pulls the reader into the book as quickly as pages can be read and turned.
