A
lissa Lindley moves back to San Jose (near her sister and mother) to lick her wounds and start fresh after her husband leaves to start a family with his new girlfriend. Her life spirals downward after his departure - culminating in losing her job and having to take a mandatory anger management class.
A
lissa starts to pick up the pieces by getting a job and working on her social life. Taking on cases at the public defender's office not only pays her bills but also introduces her to the
Butterfly Brigade
. This small group of women seek justice by taking the law into their own hands. Alissa meets Detective E. J. Rodriguez when she is called in to defend the ringleader of the
Butterfly Brigade
(interestingly enough, a fluttering of woman have started getting their own butterfly tattoos). Sparks start to fly between the two, whose meetings become more frequent. They fight the attraction, knowing the dangers of courting the enemy.
E
ileen Rendahl succeeds again with
Balancing in High Heels
. She brings real issues to the forefront, while injecting humor that keeps the reader turning pages. Each chapter starts with an exercise from Alissa's anger managment workbook - an interesting addition to the story. The romance between Alissa and Detective Rodriguez develops at a believable pace, while accounts of
Butterfly Brigade
activities had me giggling while reading. Eileen Rendahl is on my
